President’s Corner

By: Teresa Matthews

Rick and I welcomed in the New Year at James Island State Park near Charleston, SC surrounded by fellow FCRV members.  In fact, there were representatives from four chapters celebrating with us.  The Christmas light display there at the state park was awesome.   We had so much fun together that a return trip to Charleston, SC was planned for June.  This time there were five FCRV Chapters represented in the group.  We just returned, and wow we had a wonderful time; in spite of Rick’s trip to the Emergency Room with painful muscle spasms in his back. (He is doing much better now.)

In March we attended the Central District Campout at the Stanley Trail Blazers campground.  Just ask me about the “mouse trap fishing tournament” or playing with remote controlled cars!

In May, we attended the NC Statewide campout at Denton Farm Park.  The statewide event offered good food, good fellowship, and the “Not So Newlywed Game” (Saturday evening’s entertainment) was hilarious.

The Piedmont District campout took place the first weekend in June at the Crosswinds Family Campground near Lexington, NC.  The highlight of this event, for me, was when Mary Rhyne put a brown curly haired wig on Rick so that his hair color would match the color stated on his NC driver’s license.  Just ask Joe Thomas, he would love to tell you this story!

Okay, so why am I telling you all about these events that I have enjoyed so much this year?  I want to drive home the point that there are many other opportunities for fun and fellowship, outside of your local chapter, as a

member of the NC Family Campers and RVers State Association.  In this newsletter you will find registration forms for two upcoming statewide events, please make plans to attend.

Rick and I have made friends with people who live all over this state thanks to our participation in NC FCRV.  There are some great people in this organization, and we are proud to be a part of NC FCRV.  We look forward with eager anticipation to each camping event!  Let’s make plans to camp together soon!

The minutes of the Spring Board Meeting & General Session are not included in this publication.

These will be available at the upcoming Summer Board Meeting & at the Fall Statewide Campout.

Please see Teresa Matthews if you would like a printed copy.

State Director’s Report

By: Mary & Allen Burrus

The Camping Today magazine will soon start publishing 6 times per fiscal year and will be supplemented by articles, etc. on the web site.  The details have yet to be totally worked out, but this will save FCRV on mailing and printing costs to achieve a balanced buget for FCRV.

The FCRV Today, our promotional flyer, will soon be in a updated version. The new flyer will be folded like a map that allows for convenient insertion in campground card racks or somebody's pocket or purse or to distribute to potential FCRV members. Also, we use these FCRV Todays in our RV shows booths or anywhere else where needed for advertisement of FCRV.

The Retirees have new Retiree Field Directors.  They are Don & Betty Leazer.  Frank Petrowski, the original director, resigned at the Retiree Campout at Denton Farm Park, so the Leazers were appointed.

The Publicity Field Director, Holli & Marcia Nelson, have resigned this position.  If you are interested in filling this position, please let us know.  The duties are to notify the publisher of the Camping Today magazine the upcoming campouts/events in North Carolina and notifying the FCRV website of the events.  Our thanks to Holli and Marcia for the good job they have done in the past many years.

We are still looking for Membership Field Director.  If you are interested in this filling this position, please let us know.  We have contacted the National Membership Director, Bill Eckman, on guidelines and criteria for the position and as soon as he replies, we hope to fill the position, so let us know.

The SPC Field Directors, Kay & Vince Hedrick, have resigned this position.  Jim & Mary Rhyne have agreed to take this position along with Joe & Dot Thomas being the assistant.  Many thanks to Kay & Vince for a job well done while being the directors.

A former member of the Randolph Ramblers chapter, R.J. Doss, passed away on Friday June 19th.  Many of us have fond memories of camping at Rambler’s Roost, the private campground located on his property near Asheboro, NC.  If you would like to express your sympathy:

Attention Chapter Presidents:  I have not received any other prayer request or obituaries.  Please, if you have not already done so, appoint someone to send, a list of club members in need of prayer or any obituaries to me.  It has been requested that we include these in our NC State Association Camping News.

Thanks, Teresa Matthews - wkendcampers@embarqmail.com
