The North Carolina State Association of the Family Campers and RVers administers a scholarship program for the benefit of the members and their families. Annual awards can be up to $5,000. Deadlines, eligibility and application information/forms can be found below.
Who Can Apply
The North Carolina State Association Educational Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to deserving students without preference to color, creed, religion, or race, provided the applicant, or the applicant's parent, grandparent, or guardian, is a member of FCRV and the North Carolina State Association.
Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant, parent, grandparent, or guardian must be a current member of FCRV and the North Carolina State Association, and must have been a member for the year before the year of applying.
- Membership in both must be maintained throughout the award period.
- The student must be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Applications are considered from high school seniors, college students (traditional and adult), and former recipients.
- Financial need is a consideration but not the deciding factor. The board also considers the candidate's general maturity, leadership, FCRV activities, and goals.
- Re-application is required every year.
Awards
- Awards are made for full-time, part-time, and adult continuing education students.
- Full-time students are eligible for the maximum award. Part-time and continuing education students are eligible for the cost of tuition, fees, and books.
- Award amounts vary. The maximum yearly award is 10% of the Scholarship Fund's value on March 1 each year.
- Award checks are mailed to the adult winner, or to the parent, grandparent, or guardian of the recipient.
How to Apply
The Scholarship Director must have the following on file by April 1 of the year the award is given. Applications may be requested from the Scholarship Director or downloaded below.
- Completed application form
- Copy of the applicant's, parent's, grandparent's, or guardian's FCRV membership card
- Proof that North Carolina State Association dues have been paid
- Proof of admission to an accredited institution of higher learning
Selection
Recipients are selected by the Scholarship Board of Directors before the spring statewide campout and announced at the general membership meeting during the spring campout. Each recipient should make an effort to attend the presentation, if possible.
Receiving the Award
After selection, recipients submit the Check Request form to the Fund Treasurer at least three weeks before the money is needed. If the student does not complete at least one semester during the school year, the entire award must be refunded to the Scholarship Fund.
Ineligibility
A recipient becomes ineligible for any of the following reasons:
- Withdrawal from school
- Academic probation
- Termination of FCRV membership by the applicant, parent, grandparent, or guardian
- Participation in activities the college, university, or Scholarship Fund considers unpatriotic or contrary to the goals of FCRV
